About Twin Pagodas of Baisikou
Two Western Xia-period brick pagodas standing 100 m apart on a terrace at the mouth of the Baisikou gorge in the Helan Mountains, where more than a hundred temples once stood. The octagonal towers, about 39 m and 36 m tall, are covered with tiers of painted stucco Buddhas, guardians and animal masks, many from Yuan and Ming repairs, and Tangut and Sanskrit inscriptions were found on their central pillars during restoration in 1986.
