About Taoranting Park

A large lake park laid out in 1952 on old kiln land in the south of the city, named after the Taoran Pavilion, a hall built in 1695 by the kiln supervisor Jiang Zao inside the older Cibei Nunnery and a favourite gathering place of Qing scholars. Pavilions are scattered around three lakes and their islands, and the grounds also hold the graves of the lovers Gao Junyu and Shi Pingmei, whose story was retold in a book and a film.
