About Datian Earthen Forts

Five fortified earthen houses (tubao) in Datian county make up this national heritage group: Pipa Fort in Jianshe town, Fanglian Fort in Junxi town, Anliang Fort in Taoyuan town, and Tai'an Fort and Guangchong Hall in Xiaohua village, Taihua town, built between the Qianlong reign (1736–95) and 1857. They were built as defensible family homes, with rammed-earth outer walls enclosing halls and living quarters, a building type typical of the hills of central Fujian. Two more forts, Guangyu and Shaohui in Guangping town, are provincial-level monuments.

How to get to Datian Earthen Forts
