About Tonglüshan Ancient Copper Mine

An ancient copper-mining and smelting site that was worked from at least the Spring and Autumn period, and probably earlier, until the Han dynasty. It came to light in 1973 when modern miners broke into ancient shafts, galleries and furnaces, and part of it is preserved in a museum built over a surviving shaft in the 1980s, now joined by a new museum that opened in June 2023. Indoor galleries explain how the copper was found, mined and smelted, outdoor areas show the excavated workings, and in 2025 the site became a National Archaeological Site Park.
