About Zhengang Pagoda

A solid brick 'flower pagoda' about 18 metres tall on a hillock east of Yungang village, thought from its style to date from the Jin dynasty. Above an octagonal base with carved brackets and relief figures, its upper part is covered in seven tiers of small niches holding seated Buddhas, which give it the bunched look of a flower. Its tip was destroyed during the war with Japan, and it has been repaired several times since.
