About Former Lütan School and Ji Hongchang's Former Residence

The village school founded in 1921 in a former temple at Lütan by Ji Hongchang (1895–1934), a general who fought the Japanese in Chahar in 1933, joined the Communist Party in 1934 and was executed by the Nationalist government that year. The school gate and the Zhongshan lecture hall stand on the axis with classrooms to either side, and about 60 m to the east is his courtyard home with its gatehouse, guard rooms and his own room. School groups visit for guided talks on his life; the larger Ji Hongchang Memorial Hall is in Fugou county town.
