About Wanbu Huayanjing Pagoda (White Pagoda)

The Wanbu Huayanjing Pagoda, known locally as the White Pagoda after its original whitewash, is a seven-storey octagonal brick tower from the Liao dynasty that stood in the walled city of Fengzhou, which was destroyed in the late Yuan period. Its inner galleries hold six surviving Jin-dynasty stone tablets and several hundred hand-written inscriptions left by visitors from the twelfth century onwards, in scripts including Chinese, Khitan, Jurchen and Mongolian. An exhibition hall stands beside the tower, and in 2020 visitors could no longer climb inside.
