About Jimingyi Post Station

A walled Ming post station covering about 22 hectares, described as the largest surviving courier station in China, built in 1420 as a station on the Ming post road to the Xuanfu frontier and still lived in by villagers. Brick-faced earth walls about 11 m high, with corner platforms and 26 bastions, enclose a grid of lanes with the old station office, granary and horse-yard areas and seven small temples. Empress Dowager Cixi spent a night here in 1900 on her flight from Beijing, and the station was named twice, in 2004 and 2006, on the World Monuments Fund's watch list of endangered sites.
