About Taihao Fuxi Mausoleum
A vast temple-and-tomb complex to Fuxi (Taihao), the legendary first of China's Three Sovereigns, honoured here since at least the Tang and laid out in its present form by the Ming and Qing along an axis of about 750 m through nine courtyards and a succession of gates. The main Tongtian Hall enshrines Fuxi holding the eight trigrams, the Xianren Hall behind it honours Nüwa, and at the north end rises the earthen burial mound, 13.5 m high, round above and square below. From the second day of the second lunar month to the third of the third, a huge temple fair brings pilgrims, ritual dances and Huaiyang's black clay 'nini gou' toys; the 5A area also includes part of the town's Dragon Lake.
