About Zhanghe Reservoir

A large reservoir on the Zhanghe river west of Jingmen, built between 1958 and 1966 mainly for irrigation and water supply, with islands and many inlets across about 100 square kilometres of water. The scenic area around it offers lake views from named viewpoints and islands, and the reservoir was designated a national water-conservancy scenic area in 2002. It suits a relaxed day by the water rather than a sightseeing circuit.
