About Cao'an

A small granite shrine in Luoshan, Jinjiang, long regarded as the only intact Manichaean temple in the world, with a relief of Mani as the 'Buddha of Light' carved into the rock face behind it in 1339. The seated figure, about 1.5 m high in a round niche, has a beard and a halo of 18 rays, and was later venerated as a Buddhist image. It is one of the components of the Quanzhou World Heritage site.
