About Former Residence of Liu Yazi

A Qing mansion in Lili old town, Cifu Hall, built for Zhou Yuanli, a Minister of Works under the Qianlong Emperor; the poet and political activist Liu Yazi (1887–1958) rented two of its six ranges from 1922. Liu led the Southern Society, a literary group that backed Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary alliance against the Qing, and later took part in Kuomintang and China Democratic League politics. The house is now the Liu Yazi Memorial Hall, with exhibitions on his life and family and manuscripts of Southern Society members.
