About Tangxi Ancient Town
A canal town on the Grand Canal north of Hangzhou, often spelt Tangqi, which grew into one of the richest market towns of the Jiangnan region in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its landmark is Guangji Bridge, a seven-arch stone bridge over the canal rebuilt in 1489, and the old town keeps a Qianlong-era imperial stele, an ancient well and the riverside Shuibei street. The area is also known for its loquats and local pastries.
