About Putang Bridge
A nine-arched stone bridge across the Putang River in Putang village, Honglan, rebuilt in 1508–1512 with money from the local Zhao brothers on the line of the old post road from Lishui to Xuancheng. At 91.3 m long it is the largest old bridge surviving in Lishui District, built of local volcanic tuff, with pointed cutwaters on its eight piers and 72 balustrade posts each topped by a small carved lion. It carried road traffic until a new bridge was built alongside, and was restored as a footbridge in 2009–2010, when its stone deck was relaid.
