About Liugong Island

Liugong Island is a pine-covered island of 3.15 km² at the mouth of Weihai Bay, the base of China's Beiyang Fleet in the 1890s and the place where the fleet was defeated in 1895, later used by Britain as a naval base. Visitors see the restored Naval Office, a war exhibition hall, the iron pier, gun batteries and museums on the island's history and the British lease. Its war sites form a national heritage unit and the island is a 5A scenic area.

How to get to Liugong Island

Reached by ferry from the passenger terminal on Haibin Bei Road in central Weihai, a crossing of about 4 km, with the island about 6 km east of the city centre; check the official site for current sailings.
