About Sino-Soviet Friendship Memorial Tower

The 22.2 m tower was built in 1955–57 in the square in front of the Lüshun Museum, around the time Soviet forces withdrew from Lüshun and the port was returned to China in May 1955. Reliefs on its base show Tiananmen and the Kremlin, the Anshan blast furnaces, Lüshun scenery with a Soviet army victory tower, and a combine harvest at a Sino-Soviet state farm, and a gilded peace dove tops the shaft. It has been a national heritage unit since 1961.
