About Chapel of St. Francis Xavier, Coloane
A small chapel of 1928 (Igreja de São Francisco Xavier) on Largo Eduardo Marques, with a cream-coloured façade, oval windows and a bell tower. It was rebuilt on the site of a nursery run by the Canossian Sisters in memory of the missionary St Francis Xavier, and for many years held a relic of the saint together with relics of Japanese and Vietnamese martyrs; his statue is still inside. In the fountain on the square in front stands a monument to a local victory over pirates in 1910.
