About Macau Government Headquarters

A two-storey pink building of 1849 in Portuguese style, built as the Palácio do Cercal for a nobleman and used as the governor's office from 1884. It has a wing on each side and a winding corridor along the upper floor, and stands well back in a garden. On 19 December 1999 the last Portuguese governor lowered the Portuguese flag here at the start of the handover of administration to China, and it is now the headquarters of the Macau government.
