About Pao Kong Temple and Temple of Divinity of Medicine

Pao Kong Temple on Rua da Figueira was built in 1889, when a plague struck Macau and residents brought a statue of Pao Kong, the God of Justice, from Foshan to protect them. It stands with three neighbouring temples: Nam San Temple (1895), which honours Zhong Kui, the god who drives out devils, and Loi Tsou Temple (1891) and I Leng Temple (1895). I Leng, the Temple of Divinity of Medicine, honours the sleeping Buddha and other gods and dates from a time when people prayed for the sick because medical care was limited.
