About St. Lazarus' Church

A neoclassical church (Igreja de São Lázaro) in the old St Lazarus district, founded in the 16th century as a hospital chapel for lepers and one of the three oldest churches in Macau. The present building dates from the 1880s, with an asymmetrical façade, a pediment carrying a cross and an anchor, a belfry on the right and two aisles inside. The Cross of Hope from the original chapel stands in the forecourt, and the church has long been a centre of Macau's Chinese Catholic community.
