About Luoxing Pagoda
A seven-storey octagonal stone pagoda on Luoxing Hill above the Min River at Mawei, rebuilt in the 1620s on the site of a Song-dynasty tower and long used as a landmark by ships. Foreign sailors named the anchorage below it the Pagoda Anchorage, scene of the 1884 Battle of Fuzhou, in which the pagoda was damaged. The hill, once an island in the river, is now joined to the shore.
