About Nan'ao Island

Shantou's largest island and the seat of Nan'ao County, crossed by the Tropic of Cancer and linked to the mainland by the Nan'ao Bridge since 2015. It draws visitors to sandy bays such as Qing'ao Bay at its east end and to coastal-defence history, including the Zongbing Fu at Shen'ao, headquarters of the Ming and Qing regional commanders, begun in 1576.

How to get to Nan'ao Island

About an hour by road from central Shantou, over the Nan'ao Bridge from Chenghai.
