About Yishala Village
A Yi village in the dry, hot valley of the Jinsha River near the Yunnan border, listed as a Historical and Cultural Village of China in 2005. Its red-walled, grey-tiled houses with carved eaves show the influence of settlers from Jiangsu and Anhui on the local Lipo Yi, and the village keeps up its own ritual music and sheepskin-drum dance. It was once a staging post on old trade routes into Yunnan.
