About Faux Namti Bridge

A steel arch railway bridge built in 1907–08 by the French Batignolles company to carry the Yunnan–Vietnam railway across the Sicha River gorge, 102 m above the riverbed, between tunnels cut into sheer cliffs. Its parts were made in France and carried into the gorge by mules and porters, and it was the only bridge between Hekou and Bisezhai not blown up in 1940. The shape of its supports gives it the Chinese nickname Renzi Qiao, after the character 人.
