About Quzhou Ancient City & City Walls
The historic core of Quzhou, a 3.2 km² cultural tourism zone opened in 2016 around Shuiting Gate, where the Ming–Qing city wall stands beside the Qu River, and the 'three streets and seven alleys' of old lanes lined with restored buildings, craft workshops and food stalls. Six old gates survive along with stretches of the wall that earned the city the name 'Iron Quzhou' in past sieges, and a gate tower over Shuiting Gate and a bell tower on its Ming stone base have been rebuilt. Near the gate on Xiaying Street stands the Zhou Xuanling Wang Temple, a shrine to a filial son first built in the Southern Song and rebuilt in the Ming.
