About Rongxian Giant Buddha
A 36.7-metre seated Buddha carved from a sandstone hill on the edge of Rong County town in the Tang dynasty, usually ranked second in size among China's ancient stone Buddhas after Leshan. It sits within the Dafo Temple, rebuilt in the Qing, whose halls climb the hillside around it alongside Tang and Song cliff carvings and a garden of inscribed steles.
