About Yuhai Library

A private library built in 1888 by the late-Qing scholar Sun Yirang and his father Sun Yiyan, counted among Zhejiang's four great private libraries and named after the Song scholar Wang Yinglin's encyclopedia Yuhai. The complex of about 8,000 m² joins the two-storey timber library, ringed by water on three sides, with the Baijin Taozhai and Sun Yirang's former residence; its surviving rare books have been moved to the Rui'an Museum for safekeeping.
