About Wanding Bridge
A short bridge over the Wanding River on the China–Myanmar border, first built in 1938 for the Burma Road; the present steel truss span was put up by Chinese and American forces in January 1945 after Japanese troops blew up its predecessor. During the Second World War Allied supplies entered China here and Chinese Expeditionary Force troops crossed into Burma. A new road bridge replaced it in 1993, and the old span is now kept as a monument; the heritage listing also covers the former hall of the 1956 China–Burma border people's rally.
