About Shou County Old Town and City Wall

Shou County's old town, the Shouchun of history and the last capital of the state of Chu, is still ringed by its city wall, rebuilt in the Southern Song with bricks stamped 'Jiankang' that can still be seen. All four gates, Binyang (east), Tongfei (south), Dinghu (west) and Jinghuai (north), keep their barbican enclosures, and the wall held back the Huai River floods of 1991 while the town sheltered refugees. Inside are the Confucius Temple, a Ming–Qing mosque and Bao'en Temple, and the low Bagong hills rise just north of the town.
