About Taiyuan Ancient Mosque

A working mosque in the old city, laid out as two courtyards on an east-west axis in Chinese timber style. Inscriptions date its foundation to the Tang dynasty, but the surviving buildings are Ming and Qing: a gate, a two-storey Ming tower called Xingxin Tower, a lecture hall and a prayer hall with Arabic-style patterns painted on its walls. Two hexagonal pavilions in the front courtyard shelter steles, one carrying a Qing imperial edict protecting Muslims.
