About Tangshan Earthquake Ruins Memorial Park
A memorial park built around the ruined steel-casting workshop of the former Tangshan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works, left standing as evidence of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake of 28 July 1976 that flattened the city. A long black wall beside the ruins is engraved with the names of more than 240,000 people who died, and the China Tangshan Earthquake Museum next door covers the quake, the rescue and the rebuilding with objects from old Tangshan and a shaking simulation. The ruined workshop is one of three earthquake sites in the national-level listing; the others, a former college library and a former school, are elsewhere in the city.
