About Wanquan Right Guard City

A Ming garrison town founded as an earth fort in 1393 and given a brick facing in 1438, whose square circuit of walls, about 880 m on each side, still stands with a south gate (Ying'en) and a north gate (Desheng). The town inside is still lived in and has been used as a filming location for period dramas. It served as a defence base on the Ming Xuanfu frontier and, from 1693, as the seat of Wanquan county.
