About Jiangxin Islet
A long islet in the Ou River opposite central Wenzhou and long the city's emblem, with Jiangxin Temple, founded in 1137 when monks filled the channel between two islets, the East and West Pagodas, a shrine to the Song loyalist Wen Tianxiang, and buildings recalling the poets Xie Lingyun and Meng Haoran. At the foot of the East Pagoda stands the former British Consulate, a verandahed three-storey building of 1894 from the treaty-port era, which now houses a museum on Wenzhou's opening as a port. Gardens and lakes fill the rest of the island.
