About Yanqing Temple

A small temple in Shanwen village whose Jin-dynasty main hall, the Great Buddha Hall, is the only original building left; the other halls were rebuilt in recent years. The hall has three bays under a hipped-gable roof with very wide eaves, few columns inside, and oblique bracket arms that are unusual in a building of this size. The hall no longer holds its original statues, and the lower part of a Song-dynasty sutra pillar dated 1035 stands in the front courtyard.

How to get to Yanqing Temple

In Shanwen village, Yangbai township, about 16 km west of Wutai. Like many village temples in Shanxi it is often locked, so ask in the village for the caretaker.
