About Jiahu Site and Museum

The Neolithic settlement of Jiahu, lived in from about 9,000 to 7,500 years ago, yielded bone flutes made from the wing bones of red-crowned cranes that can still be played, along with signs carved on tortoise shells, early rice and traces of fermented drink. The site museum, opened in 2023 beside Jiahu village, shows the flutes and other finds, and walkways in the archaeological park next to it lead through four timber shelters with displays of a soil profile, house foundations and the origins of farming.
