About Yisushe Theatre

Yisushe, a company founded in 1912 to reform Shaanxi's Qinqiang opera, has performed since 1917 in this theatre, built in 1916 as the Yichunyuan and one of the earliest modern-style theatres surviving in China. The theatre is now the heart of the Yisushe Cultural Block just north-east of the Bell Tower, which also has a museum on the company's century of history and an open-air stage where Qinqiang excerpts have been performed regularly since spring 2023.
