About Jilüe Huang Ancestral Hall

A private ancestral hall completed in 1887 for Huang Jilüe in Tiexiang Lane, old Chaozhou, known for its Chaozhou gilded woodcarving and stone carving. Instead of the usual auspicious motifs, the gold-lacquered carvings on its beams show historical tales and legends such as the Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage and the Goddess of the Luo River. It is laid out in two sections, with four halls facing one another around the courtyard.
