About Former Residence of Peng Dehuai
The family home of Peng Dehuai (1898–1974), the general who commanded the Chinese People's Volunteers in the Korean War and was defence minister from 1954 until he was purged after clashing with Mao Zedong over the Great Leap Forward at the 1959 Lushan Conference. The mud-brick, tile-roofed house of 17 rooms at Wushi, which Peng paid to rebuild in 1925, stands about 30 m from the site of the thatched cottage where he was born. Around it the Peng Dehuai Memorial Hall, a 4A scenic area of about 30 ha, adds a biographical exhibition and a Korean War hall, a bronze statue, the Dehuai Pavilion and his tomb.
