About Mausoleum of the Prince of Lu

The tombs of Zhu Yiliu, Prince Jian of Lu and a younger brother of the Wanli Emperor, and of his secondary consort Zhao, laid out side by side on the southern slope of Fenghuang Mountain on the model of the emperor's own Dingling tomb near Beijing. A spirit way of stone officials and animals leads past stone archways and a three-arched bridge to gates, a sacrificial hall, a soul tower and walled burial mounds, all within bluestone walls. Many of the sculptures were damaged in the 1960s, while the consort's tomb, used as a prison from 1953 to 2005, came through largely intact.
