About Hukou Waterfalls (Shaanxi side)
The largest waterfall on the Yellow River, where the river is squeezed from a bed several hundred metres wide into a narrow rock trough and plunges into it in a roar of brown water and spray; the 'teapot spout' (hukou) shape gives the falls their name. This card covers the west-bank viewing area in Yichuan County, Shaanxi; the opposite bank belongs to Jixian in Shanxi, and the falls and their 5A rating are shared between the two provinces. The falls are widest in the summer flood season, and the Qilangwo Bridge below them links the two banks.
How to get to Hukou Waterfalls (Shaanxi side)
On the west bank about 50 km east of Yichuan town, roughly an hour by road; the viewing area closes temporarily during flood peaks and ice floods, so check before travelling.
