About Nanbian Old Houses

Two Qing-dynasty courtyard compounds, Laohao and Baohe, about 200 m apart on a mountainside in a small valley village in Huanghua town, listed as a national heritage site in 2019. The family house was first built in 1801 and the surviving buildings date from the Xianfeng reign (1851–61), with finely carved stone, wood and brick showing flowers, animals and folk tales. In 1941 a Nationalist army division set up its headquarters in the village after the fall of Yichang.
