About Shanjuan Cave

A karst cave in Luoyan Hill near Zhangzhu, the first of Yixing's 'three wonders' among its caves, with upper, middle and lower chambers full of stalactites and a water cave where boats follow an underground river. The scenic area is tied to the Butterfly Lovers legend of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, with a Tang inscription marking 'Zhu Yingtai's study', and nearby at the foot of Guoshan stands the Guoshan Stele, a cylindrical stone carved in seal script in 276 to record the sacrifices to heaven and earth held there for the Wu ruler Sun Hao.

How to get to Shanjuan Cave

Near Zhangzhu town about 20 km south-west of central Yixing, by road; a sightseeing cable car runs up the hill.
