About Yuanmou Man Site
Two fossil human incisors found here on 1 May 1965 belong to Yuanmou Man, an early Homo erectus usually dated to about 1.7 million years ago, though the dating has been disputed. The find spot, on a hillside near Danawu village south-east of Yuanmou town, opened as an archaeological site park in May 2025, with a monument at the discovery site, the protected core of the excavations and renewed exhibition facilities. The Yuanmou Man Museum in town covers the finds in more detail.
