About Cishi Pagoda
A solid seven-storey octagonal brick pagoda 39 m tall on Taqian Street near the lakeshore, one of the oldest surviving pagodas in Hunan, with Buddha niches on four sides of each upper storey. Repairs in 2015 found an inscription dated 1066 and more than 1,000 Tang and Song coins in the spire, pushing its accepted date back from 1242, and it now stands in the restored historic district along Dongting South Road.
