About Jingshan & Jingshan Temple
Jingshan Temple, on the summit area of Mount Jing in north-western Yuhang, was founded in 745 and in the Southern Song ranked first among the 'Five Mountains', the leading Chan Buddhist monasteries. It is honoured in Japan as one of the ancestral temples of Zen and in China as one of the birthplaces of tea culture. The present buildings were rebuilt on the old site from 1994, and the scenic area also takes in the old Jingshan path and the bell tower with a Southern Song imperial stele and a Ming bell.
