About Qinglian Temple

Qinglian Temple, founded in the Northern Qi dynasty, stands on the lower slope of Xiashi Mountain in two courts, the lower and upper temples, joined by a mountain path of about 500 m. The lower temple's Maitreya Hall holds six Tang-dynasty painted clay figures, among the few Tang temple sculptures to survive in China, with a 4.2 m Maitreya seated with both legs hanging; the upper temple keeps Song-dynasty timber halls and sculpture. The temple is run as an ancient-architecture museum.
