About Eastern Qing Tombs

The burial ground of five Qing emperors (Shunzhi, Kangxi, Qianlong, Xianfeng and Tongzhi), 15 empresses and 136 imperial concubines, spread over about 80 square kilometres of hills around Changrui Mountain. Visitors walk the stone-lined spirit ways, with their archways, bridges and carved figures, to the halls of several tombs, among them Xiaoling (Shunzhi), Jingling (Kangxi), Yuling (Qianlong) and Empress Dowager Cixi's Ding Dongling; the underground chambers of Yuling and Cixi's tomb can be visited. Chinese official sources describe it as the largest and most complete surviving Qing imperial tomb complex, and it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.
