Suzhou 宿州Sùzhōu
Ringing stones, pear blossom and a Sui-dynasty canal that still holds water

About Suzhou
Suzhou sits on the flat northern edge of Anhui, where the province meets Jiangsu, Shandong and Henan. In Si County a stretch of the Sui-dynasty Grand Canal still holds water, and part of it is on the World Heritage list. Lingbi is known for its ringing ornamental stones, Dangshan for orchards that fill with pear blossom each spring, and Yongqiao for its circus tradition; the American novelist Pearl S. Buck lived in the town from 1917 and drew on the region for The Good Earth.
