About Linxia

Linxia, the old Hezhou, was a Ming tea-and-horse market on the road to Tibet, and it is home to the Hui and to the Dongxiang, Bonan and Salar, who are also Muslim. In Linxia City the Bafang Thirteen Lanes keep the old Hui quarter's mosques and brick-carved courtyards, and Hezheng's museum holds fossil elephants, rhinos and three-toed horses from the surrounding hills. On the Yellow River above Liujiaxia, Bingling Temple has Buddhist caves dated from 420 and a seated Maitreya 27 m high.
