About Lingao
Lingao, a county governed directly by the province, is a farming and fishing county on Hainan's north-west coast. Most of its people speak Lingao, or Be, a Kra–Dai language rather than a Chinese dialect, and the Lilimei fishermen's songs and the local puppet theatre are listed intangible heritage. On Lingao Cape at the northern tip stand a Qing-period lighthouse, listed nationally in 2013, and Hainan Liberation Park, which marks the landing of People's Liberation Army troops on 17 April 1950.
